COLLEGE OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science/ Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology  (BMLS/ BSMT) is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional courses. The fourth-year consists of the clinical internship program of one year (12 months) in a DOH-licensed and CHED - accredited hospital laboratory. The interns are required to rotate in the different clinical areas such as Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunohematology (Blood Banking), Immunology – Serology, Urinalysis of Urine and other body fluids, Parasitology and Histopathologic- Cytotologic Technique, and Phlebotomy.  Quality Control pervades all the aspects of the clinical practice, thus it is given emphasis in all the undertaking of the courses.

The BMLS program prepares the students to become professionals with adequate knowledge, skills, and competence in laboratory practice where analyses of the various body fluids and tissues contribute to the proper diagnosis and management of diseases.

The College of Medical Laboratory Science of LORMA COLLEGES has gained recognition for the  laudable performance  of its graduates in the licensure examinations and for finding them situated in prestigious places of work not only locally, but also internationally. We have alumni  who populate the hospitals  here in La Union and Pangasinan and Benguet, as well as far down Metro Manila and southern Philippines.

Internationally, the Lormanian medical technologists are working in the USA, Canada, Europe and Middle East.  Why is that… because LORMA Colleges live up to its vision and mission to provide quality education and training to its students, who will graduate with outstanding knowledge, skills and competencies and  who are globally worthy,  with readiness imbued with confidence.

We aim to make the CMLS in LORMA Colleges the best school of Medical Technology in this part of  Region I. Sooner than soon, we will establish the College- based clinical laboratory to substantiate the classroom education with excellent clinical practice in an internship. This 4th year's clinical internship will continue on to the real patient-based health care in our affiliated hospitals which are prestigious and known for quality laboratory and medical services.

The CMLS faculty consists of 72% Lormanian themselves. Our on-campus faculty are assisted by adjunct professors and lecturers who selflessly give some of their precious time to teach our students; they are coming from the USA, Canada, and the Middle East. The on-campus faculty, although they are young , they manifest dynamic leadership, hard work, intelligence  discipline and most of all,  quality in their classroom management and instruction. ; These are qualities that they would want to instill in our students.

The MLS professionals are versatile. Primarily, they can work as medical technologists in hospital laboratories and private doctors’ clinics, they can teach as instructors in academic institutions, they can engage in research, or put up their businesses by owning private clinical laboratories, or distributors of laboratory equipment and reagents. They can pursue Medicine and be doctors later on.

Does the MLS curriculum prepare our students for these future endeavors? Very well yes. The new curriculum spells out program outcomes that should realize these qualities in our graduates. As Dr. Carol Lynn R. Macagba said, we do not just produce graduates from our programs, rather that we should produce “the Lormanian professionals!”

With these being said, we warmly welcome our students who have the passion for discovering what is inside our blood, tissues and secretions, studying what causes diseases, and we become significant partners of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, radiologic technologists, physical and respiratory therapists in the excellent Lormanian-labeled health care specialists.
